For customers, preferring something a little less elaborate we have now introduced our Range of Tortoise Cottages. We have taken our distinctive Granddad Robs tortoise housing and reined it in a bit.
The Tortoise Cottage is available in the same size increments as our main range of tortoise housing. Please be assured we have neither compromised on the workmanship or materials, the Tortoise Cottages are constructed from MARINE grade 12mm thick ply which is neat, waterproof, very strong and very durable.
I have to confess that I am not a tortoise keeper. The tortoise housing and tortoise tables we build is the result of numerous tortoise keeper’s requesting bigger, smaller, wider, taller, coupled with their invaluable knowledge of what their tortoise wants and as the keeper what they need as well.

A good amount of our work is made to measure, so if you have a requirement, please ask. The worst we can say is “no” but it’s not happened yet!
TORTOISE COTTAGE OPTIONAL EXTRAS
Provides a ‘leg up’.
Creates a 'backroom' and shields against draughts.
Heavy-duty clear strip curtains, gives protection without diminishing natural light.
Roof, floor and walls (except the door wall), lined with 20mm of rigid foam insulation with secondary protecting plywood liner.
1.2mtr x 2mtr run with solid walls and hinged wired roof.
To allow the installation of a lamp we increase the wall height by 20cm and create a cable port in the back gable.
Any size or orientation, gladly quoted for.
Although the timber we build with is pressure treaded or marine grade and will last many years, we still think it prudent occasionally to apply a re-treatment. I have personal used this treatment on my own housing, and can highly recommend it:
STOPS WATER DEGRADATION -
Forms a water shedding coating stopping water ingression and potential wood rot.
CAN BE APPLIED TO WET WOOD -
No waiting for that elusive day when you have time and the wood is dry.
MICRO POROUS -
Allows the wood to ‘breath’.
Has a milky colour when applied but dries clear, so OK to applied liberally without showing too many brush or run marks.
SUITABLE FOR ANIMAL HOUSING -
And says as much on the label!
